WYWG 12/10/13

What we did:

  •  Bellwork: A package arrives at your doorstep with your name on it.  What do you do?
  • Review guidelines for the final portfolio/final short story, along with the Saturation Project.  Please come see Miss Newman to make sure you know what you need to do for each of those projects!

What is due?:

  • All late work is due January 3rd
  • First draft due on December 17th
  • Final projects/Saturation project due on January 7th

What we did:

  •  Bellwork: Write about the letter Q.  (This is #6 – they are due today!)
  • Plot plan assignment:
    • We watched the Pixar short “Blue Umbrella” and filled in the following chart:
    • “Once upon a time there was __(Character)___.  Every day, __(Status Quo)____.  One day ___(Change)___.  Because of that __(overall goal of character)__.  Because of that __(Complication to plan)___.  Until finally __(resolution)__.
    • You need to do at least three of these by Thursday.  They can be handwritten.
    • This is in addition to the setting assignment, which is due on Thursday as well.

What is due?:

  • Setting and Plot plan assignments due Thursday (12/5)
  • Rough draft of final is due on 12/17
  • Are you working on your Saturation project?

What we did:

  • Bellwork: Use the following words in a paragraph – coo, alive, cap, books, subtract
  • Two sourcebook presentations
  • Assignment: First Person Narration
    • Pick one of the characters from your Character File assignment
    • Must write in first person
    • give them some kind of a challenge/annoyance/inconvenience
    • Focus on this character alone (no major character interactions/dialogue – really zero in on building this character.)
    • Typed, about 1 page long
    • Due Tuesday by the end of class

What is due?:

  • Character Files (Thursday, 11/14)
  • First Person assignment (Tuesday, 11/12)

What we did:

  •  Bellwork: You discover that aliens have now shadows.  To prove this you. . .
  • Continue with the Pixar story tip sheet
  • Introduction to the Medieval Story assignment and to Fiction

What is due?:

  • Medieval Story final assignment is due on Tuesday November 5th.  Typed, approximately 2 pages.  Must use the elements that you randomly selected with the numbers you chose.  Be creative!

  • Bring four copies of your rough draft on Tuesday.  If you would like me to get it printed for you, please email a copy of it to me by Tuesday morning at 8:00 AM.  Your copies should be typed, not hand written, please.

Creative Writing: 10/1/13

  •  Bellwork: Use the following words – Spot, Fold, Married, Poison, Bells
  • Article: “Hogzilla”
  • Introduction to the Portfolio and Rubric for the final project in creative non-fiction

What you need to get:

  •  Pick up the portfolio assignment sheet and the rubric

What you need to do:

  • Start working on your final project

What is due?:

  • Three copies of the rough draft are due for next Tuesday

  •  Bellwork: Free Write
  • Sourcebooks: Joy (#17, Make ‘Em Worry), and #12: Tell, Don’t Show
  • Read: “On Loss and Remembrance”
  • Assignment: Portfolio piece plan

What you need to get:

  •  Get notes on the Sourcebooks

What is due?:

  • “Mulberry” assignment due Tuesday
  • Come on Tuesday with a basic outline of what your final essay will be for the non-fiction unit.  You should plan on including 3-4 different events that are connected somehow, and be prepared to explain your plan to Miss Newman on Tuesday
  • Rough Draft of the final essay due 10/4
