  •  Bellwork Scenario:
    • Place: in a helicopter
    • Character: a young doctor
    • Object: King’s crown
    • Smell: Dark Chocolate
  • Essay: William’s Mullberries

  •  Assignment: Connect two experiences together into an essay.  Based on the Mulberry essay, the topic for the essay has to involve wounded pride.

What is due?:

  • “Mulberry” essay is due on Monday (1 1/2-2 pages typed, printed.)
  • Rough draft of final is due on Oct. 4

  •  Bellwork: “You need four hats for a one-day outing?”

  • How-To assignment

What you need to get:

  • Notes on the “How To” assignment

What you need to do:

  •  Get started on the first draft of your final piece.  It can be something you’ve been wanting to write about forever, or it can be an expanded version of an assignment you turned in for class, but the rough draft is due on Tuesday, October 8th.

What is due?:

  • How To is due on Thursday

  •  Bellwork: Use the following words in a paragraph: baseball, snobbish, smiling, question, disagree.
    • TURN IN BELLWORK
  • Group share of theMy Name” or “My Room” assignment
  • Read: “The Audition”
  • Assignment: “The Most Embarrassing. . . “

What you need to get:

What you need to do:

  •  Free write on the topic “The Most Embarrassing” for a half an hour.  The goal is not exact memories, the goal is remembering how something felt and conveying that emotion.

What is due?:

  • Nothing – are you caught up?

  • Read “Thoughts of a Grasshopper” by Louise Plummer
  • Introduction to the “My Room” Assignment
  • Work time on the “My Room” Assignment

What you need to get:

  •  Notes from a friend or from Miss Newman on the “My Room” assignment

What you need to do:

  • “My Room” assignment due Thursday: Typed, 3/4-1 page, must highlight three places of your room that reflect who you are.

What is due?:

  • My Name assignment due today – turn it in ASAP
  • My Room assignment due Thursday

  •  Bellwork #3: Close your eyes and point to something, then point to something else, then something else.  Open your eyes and write about that thing.
  • Model of a Sourcebook presentation and choosing presentation topics/days
  • My Name revision time

What you need to get:

  • Pick up a Sourcebook presentation option.  Come see Miss Newman for help and any questions.

What you need to do:

  • Turn in your 3 books that you are going to read for the Saturation project.

What is due?:

  • My Name final is due at the beginning of class next Tuesday – it must be printed!

  • Be sure to turn in your student information sheet/survey, and the brainstorming activity from last Friday

  • Book picks for your Saturation Assignment are due on Thursday
  • Your My Name assignment is due on Thursday.  You will be sharing these!

  •  Bellwork 2: What makes a good story?
  • Discussion on the types of Creative Non Fiction
  • Sample Creative Non Fiction essays
  • Brainstorming Activity

What you need to get:

  •  Notes from a friend on class discussion
  • Pick up the Annie Dillard essay we read in class to read

What you need to do:

  •  Brainstorming Activity:
    • Come up with 7-10 possibilities to write about in each of the 7 categories listed below
    • Hand written is fine, and any format is fine as well
    • Examples can be a few words – just so you know what event you are referring to.
    • Due on Tuesday
    • Categories: Gaining a new skill, What makes you unique (and how did you find out?), Change (in life/opinions), Gaining Independence, Places you’ve been (cultural experiences you’ve had), something you know/love, challenges you’ve overcome/are overcoming.

What is due?:

  • Student info sheet/survey (Tues.)
  • Brainstorming (Tues.)
  • Start thinking about your name . . .
